America 250!

On July 4, 2026, the United States will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Tuscarawas County is proud to join in this momentous celebration with a variety of events and initiatives that honor our rich history and cultural heritage. Home to Ohio’s only Revolutionary War fort—Fort Laurens—and situated along the historic Ohio Frontier, our county’s past is deeply woven into the fabric of America’s founding story.

One of the highlights of our commemoration will be the Ohio Signature Event, the “250 Buckeye Train,” taking place April 25–26, 2026. This exciting experience features a heritage train ride culminating at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum and will include an early transportation festival, celebrating innovation and progress through time.

We invite residents and visitors alike to explore and enjoy the many special programs planned across Tuscarawas County. Be sure to check the events calendar regularly for updates and opportunities to take part in this historic milestone.

Monthly Celebration Themes

The Tuscarawas County America 250 Ohio mural was designed and painted by local artist Sarah Dugger. It is located southeast of the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, directly behind the 2700 Engine.

In 2026, we will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States by highlighting Tuscarawas County’s lasting contributions to American history. Each month, we’ll explore a different theme selected by the American 250 Ohio Commission that showcases Ohio’s unique impact on the nation. Tuscarawas County is proud to participate by sharing how our local history connects to these statewide themes. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram throughout 2026 to discover the stories that make our community an important part of America’s journey.
