Baylor Beach Park is located north of Tuscarawas County Ohio. They have 60 campsites (water, electric and primitive) in additions to picnic shelters, swimming and miniature golf.
David Warther Carvings represent one man’s dedication to create a body of artwork for the benefit of the visiting public and his native community.
David Warther’s work is a collection of intricately carved miniatures that depict sailing ships from ancient Egypt, circa 3000 B.C. to modern times. The collection, now numbering over 80 ship carvings, is a highly educational exhibit of maritime history. When on public display, David’s exhibit of carvings has been seen by visitors from around the globe who have been inspired by the striking beauty of his artwork.
Carving from antique ivory and ebony wood, David’s works are designed using blueprints and drawings furnished by maritime scholars and researchers worldwide. Visitors are especially intrigued by the ivory rigging. Each line is made of ivory that has been hand filed to seven thousandths of an inch (.007″) in diameter and then masterfully applied to the ship carving. David developed this hand filing and sanding technique for making “ivory threads” at the age of 13, and has perfected it over the years.
Tappan Lake offers a picturesque drive for visitors along the shoreline, and is a popular site for boating, fishing, and more! Boasting 2,350 acres of water surface, Tappan Lake Park offers over 500 campsites, full and electric hookups.
North of Tuscarawas County Ohio, the Bear Creek Resort Ranch KOA has 100 campsites (full, partial and primitive) in addition to horseback riding, ATV trails, swimming and fishing.
Just outside of Tuscarawas County, Historic Roscoe Village is a = beautifully restored 1830’s canal-era village offering living history tours with costumed interpreters, hands-on activities, quaint shops, casual dining, the Montecello III Canal Boat, and the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum.
Tucked in the rolling hills of Ohio’s Amish Country, The Farm at Walnut Creek offers a peaceful way to enjoy a taste of life over in Holmes County, Ohio. Experience feeding the exotic animals (our favorite are the giraffes) or simply kick back on the porch of the farm house and watch life happen at a slower pace.
The Subway in Strasburg is just off the I-77 exit and is near the area hotels. Build your own sandwiches and salads!

Whether birding, biking, hiking, running, riding on horseback, taking a canal boat ride, or traveling alongside it by scenic rail — folks find that old-school “travel” along the Towpath Trail adds an undeniable energy to the quality of life in the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Stark and Tuscarawas in Northeastern Ohio.
Begin your journey on the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail in Bolivar Ohio. The Aqueduct Bridge connects the Stark County trail with the Tuscarawas County trail along the intersection of State Route 212 and Shepler Church Road SW in Bolivar. Once in Tuscarawas County, the road route takes you to Fort Laurens State Memorial – it’s first trailhead! There you will find public restrooms and the start of the limestone trail.
As you cross the bridge over I-77, you will see on your journey numerous remnants of the Canal’s lock system on your way to the next trailhead, Canal Lands Park, in Zoar just off Dover-Zoar Road.
As you continue down the trail, you will eventually reach State Route 800 in Zoarville and can continue through to Camp Tuscazoar’s trails.
Tuscarawas County’s portion accounts for roughly six miles of trail.

Fort Laurens was constructed in 1778 as a stepping stone to the West and a staging area for an attack on Fort Detroit. The American soldiers stationed there were subsequently beset by British and Native American forces and the Fort was abandoned in 1779.
Fort Laurens was the only Revolutionary War fort built in what is now known as Ohio. The State Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot of the American Revolution serve to honor the 21 soldiers who died there and the five soldiers unable to be identified.
Currently, no parts of the original fort remain above ground. However, the outline of the fort is still visible and the museum located on site has a wealth of information to offer visitors.
The Canal Street Diner is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Close to the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail, this restaurant offers a lot for the whole family. Open seven days a week, their hours are:

Family owned and operated, the NTR Canoe Livery has been in operation since 1974. They currently over a 50 canoe operation and intentionally limit the number of canoes they put on the river at a time so you can have a proper wilderness experience. The NTR Livery offers canoeing, kayaking, tubing, fishing, camping and easy access to bike and hiking paths.
They offer trips ranging from six to 14.5 miles long. Ask about their “Sunset” trips!
