The Canal Dover Association and the Dover Boat and Ski Club are sponsoring a canoe and kayak race on the Tuscarawas River in downtown Dover Saturday, July 8, 2017.
This race is open to anyone who can paddle a boat and wants to have fun on the river. Paddlers will start at the boat launch ramp on Canal Street, just upstream from the Wooster Avenue bridge. They will paddle upstream, around a buoy and back downstream to the finish line.
Racers can choose from a 5-mile loop or a 12-mile double-loop course. There are classes for men, women and mixed teams. All types of canoes and kayaks are welcome. Races start at 10 a.m., with a mandatory racer’s meeting at 9:30.
On-site registration opens @ 8 a.m. Cost is $20.00 per entrant by July 1, $25.00 day of event, $12 Junior (17 and under) which includes t-shirt, awards, commemorative ornament, door prizes, and refreshments after the race.
There will even be a race for the kids. After the long races, a short race for kids, age 13 and under, will be held.
This race is sanctioned by the United States Canoe Association and is part of the Ohio Division racing schedule.
Racers must have a boat that is currently registered with the Ohio Division of Watercraft, a personal flotation device and a whistle.
Spectators can view the race at the start/finish line.
